ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: TELEVISION DRAMA SERIES

In order to be eligible, a Television Drama Series must:

  • Be an Australian production produced for television.
  • Have had the first episode of the entered series / season broadcast in Australia for the first time between 14 October 2016 and 20 October 2017.
  • Be a drama series of a potentially unlimited number of episodes, but no fewer than five episodes, each of which is no less than one half television hour in length.
  • Be either:
    • A series of self-contained stories which can be screened in any order; or
    • A number of interweaving and overlapping plots continuing from one episode to the next.
  • The entrant may submit up to two episodes for judging. These episodes will be judged as a single entry for the Best Television Drama Series Award but as individual entries for all other Awards.

This definition specifically excludes a Telefeature or Mini Series.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: TELEFEATURE

In order to be eligible, a Telefeature must:

  • Be an Australian production produced for television.
  • Have had the full entered production broadcast in Australia for the first time between 14 October 2016 and 20 October 2017.
  • Be a single, self-contained and continuous drama made for television.
  • Be no less than one television hour in length or, in the case of predominately animated programs, no less than one half television hour in length.
  • The entrant must submit the entire production for judging.

This definition specifically excludes a Television Drama Series or Mini Series.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: MINI SERIES

In order to be eligible, a Mini Series must:

  • Be an Australian production produced for television.
  • Have had the first episode of the entered production broadcast in Australia for the first time between 14 October 2016 and 20 October 2017.
  • Be a complete, self-contained dramatised story with a major continuous plot for which there is an expectation of an ending resolving the major plot tensions.
  • Be less than 13 hours in total length.
  • For the avoidance of doubt, only ‘one-off’ series are eligible for this category. Productions which have had previous seasons or are reasonably expected by the Producers to return for further seasons and in which substantially the same characters and/or narrative setting will appear, are not eligible.
  • The entrant may submit up to two episodes for judging. These episodes will be judged as a single entry for the Best Telefeature or Mini Series Award but as individual entries for all other Awards.

This definition specifically excludes a Television Drama Series or Telefeature.

MEMBERSHIP & ENTRY

Any production entered into the AACTA Awards (or AFI Awards) for a previous year is ineligible.

Late entries will not be accepted.

In order to be eligible to enter the Television Drama Series, Telefeature or Mini Series categories, a minimum of five Award candidates listed on the form must be current AACTA members. In the event that less than five Award candidates are listed on the Form, then all Award candidates listed on the Form must be current AACTA members. In the event that fewer than five Award candidates qualify for AACTA membership, then AFI membership will be counted as “AACTA membership” for the purposes of this rule.
