Overview
Winners of the 4th AACTA International Awards were announced in Los Angeles on 31 January 2015 at the Hollywood Palladium at the G'Day USA Gala presented by Qantas, where the AACTA International Awards served as the centrepiece of the Gala. The event followed the announcement of a partnership between AACTA and G'Day USA in December 2014.
The Awards were presented by AACTA President Geoffrey Rush, who shared the stage with fellow presenters, including Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, Rebel Wilson, Rachel Griffiths, Elizabeth Debicki, Jonathan LaPaglia and John Travolta.
Winners were announced across seven categories: Best Film, Best Direction, Best Screenplay, Best Lead Actor, Best Lead Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress.
BIRDMAN OR (THE UNEXPECTED VIRTUE OF IGNORANCE) lead the Ceremony with a total of four wins including Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Direction and Best Lead Actor. The film went on to receive four Oscars® including Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Direction.
Julianne Moore picked up the AACTA International Award for Best Lead Actress for her performance in STILL ALICE. The Award preceded Julianne's first Oscar® win, which rounded out a clean sweep of the 2015 Awards circuit including Golden Globe, SAG and BAFTA wins.
Similarly to Julianne, both Best Supporting Actor winner J.K. Simmons and Best Supporting Actress winner Patricia Arquette added AACTA International Awards to their clean sweep of the 2015 Awards circuit for their roles in WHIPLASH and BOYHOOD, respectively.
