Overview

The 6th AACTA Awards presented by Foxtel were celebrated across two major events in Sydney in December 2016:

  • The 6th AACTA Awards presented by Foxtel | Industry Luncheon presented by Blue Post was held at The Star Event Centre in Sydney on Monday 5 December
  • The 6th AACTA Awards presented by Foxtel | Ceremony & Official After Party was held at The Star Event Centre in Sydney on Wednesday 7 December

A total of 53 AACTA Awards were presented across the two events, honouring the very best in Australian screen excellence of the past 12 months.

HACKSAW RIDGE led the Awards tally, receiving a total of nine Awards, including Best Film, Best Direction (awarded to Mel Gibson), Best Lead Actor (awarded to Andrew Garfield) and Best Supporting Actor (awarded to Hugo Weaving).

Taking home three awards each were Mini Series THE KETTERING INCIDENT and Feature Film THE DAUGHTER, which saw Odessa Young receive the AACTA Award for Best Lead Actress at just 18, making her the youngest of the seven actresses to win the Award for their Feature Film debut.

Documentary IN THE SHADOW OF THE HILL, Mini Series' MOLLY and popular television series' WENTWORTH and RAKE all followed closely behind, receiving two Awards each.

Receiving individual awards were Isla Fisher who was awarded with the AACTA Trailblazer Award, Lynette Wallworth who received the Byron Kennedy Award and Paul Hogan, who was honoured with the prestigious Longford Lyell Award.
