AACTA ANNOUNCES THE NOMINEES FOR THE 2024 AACTA AWARDS PRESENTED BY FOXTEL GROUP

AACTA unveils the nominees for the highly anticipated 2024 AACTA Awards, presented by Foxtel Group, marking a celebration of outstanding Australian Film, TV, Documentary, and Online productions. Set to take place on the Gold Coast in February, this year's ceremony promises to honour the best in the industry.

Leading the television nominations are powerhouse productions like The Newsreader, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, Colin from Accounts, and Deadloch, amassing an impressive array of nods. The New Boy, Talk to Me, and Shayda lead the film nominations.   

The Newsreader secures its position as the most nominated production this year, clinching a staggering 15 nominations, including Best Drama Series and lead acting nominations for the stellar performances by Sam Reid and Anna Torv. Following closely, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart gathers 12 nominations, notably earning a nod for Best Miniseries. Colin From Accounts and Deadloch, both secure ten nominations each, including a nod for Best Narrative Comedy Series.

It was a strong year for Australian comedy, evident in the nominations for Best Narrative Comedy Series, which includes Fisk, Gold Diggers, Upright, and Utopia alongside Colin From Accounts and Deadloch. The newly introduced award for Best Acting in a Comedy witnessed a fierce competition among standout performances, with talents from Patrick Brammall, Harriet Dyer, Helen Thomson, Kate Box, Nina Oyama, Kitty Flanagan, Julia Zemiro, and Celeste Barber, showcasing their brilliance in various productions.

Six compelling films vie for the coveted title of the 2024 AACTA Award for Best Film, with Warwick Thornton’s The New Boy, featuring the illustrious Cate Blanchett, securing 12 nominations. Talk to Me, the feature film directorial debut of Danny and Michael Philippou, closely follows with 11 nominations. Completing this competitive category are Shayda, Sweet As, The Royal Hotel, and Of An Age.

In a first for the AACTA Industry Awards, the ceremony will take place in the afternoon on Thursday 8 February, followed by the Official After Party presented by Screen Queensland.

The AACTA Awards Ceremony will be held on Saturday 10 February. Both ceremonies are presented by Foxtel Group, who today announce they will extend their partnership with AACTA for a further three years.

The 2024 AACTA Awards ceremonies will form part of AACTA Festival, a four-day celebration of Australia’s vibrant screen industry. With more than 70 events, the AACTA Festival will present a dynamic array of panels, meet-and-greet, screenings and activities offering a place for the Australian screen industry to connect from February 8-11, 2024. AACTA Festival will be held at the Home of the Arts (HOTA) on the Gold Coast, a destination renowned for its beauty and vibrant cultural scene.

The AACTA Audience Choice Awards will commence in December as AACTA call for contenders on their social media platforms for the publicly voted Awards including Favourite Australian Digital Creator, Favourite Australian Sporting Moment, Favourite Film, Favourite TV Show, Favourite Actors and more.
