HEAR FROM SOME OF THE SCREEN INDUSTRY’S LEADING EXPERTS IN A SERIES OF LIVE AND ONLINE EVENTS
AACTA's ScreenFest returns for 2022, with a 5-day program featuring live and online masterclasses, thought-provoking conversations, and screenings. This annual celebration of Australian screen creatives commences on Saturday, December 3 and runs through until Wednesday December 7, 2022.
Championing local creatives underpins this year’s ScreenFest program. Director Bruce Beresford and cinematographer Don McAlpine will present a 35mm screening of their 10 x AFI Award winning film BREAKER MORANT (1980)live at Ritz Randwick, and editor Matt Villa reveals exclusive insights into Baz Luhrmann’s blockbuster biopic ELVIS at Hoyts EQ. Producer Tom Hoffie and creator, showrunner and executive producer Paddy McCrae discuss their new Australian drama IRREVERENT in an exclusive online event presented by Screen Queensland.
Screen fans are invited to get to know this year’s AACTA nominees from the comfort of their couch. Host Gretel Killeen sits down for a candid and intimate discussion with the cast and creatives vying for this year’s AACTA Awards during Inside the AACTA Studio, an entertainment special available on AACTA TV Sunday, December 4, 2022.
ScreenFest also seeks to provide aspiring creatives with the tools and skills they need to pursue a career in the industry. Join us live at AFTRS in Sydney on Tuesday, December 6, for a masterclass with award-winning casting director Stevie Ray, who took out the 2020 AACTA Award for Best Casting for BABYTEETH (2019), and two compelling events presented by NextGen Media Academy that unpack the importance of narrative and music when creating social media and digital content.
Available to stream online via AACTA TV from Saturday December 3, 2022, Screen Queensland’s CEO Courtney Gibson talks with producers Rosemary Blight (BLACK SNOW) and Schuyler Weiss (ELVIS) about the appeal of Queensland as a filming location, and VicScreen’s Production Executive Ariel Waymouth moderates a discussion between industry experts, who explore what it takes to make content for kids.
AACTA CEO Damian Trewhella said, “We are thrilled to honour Australia’s most skilled and celebrated creatives during a 5-day festival dedicated to the screen industry. After 2 years of COVID, this year, ScreenFest is bigger than ever, as enthusiasts and professionals are invited to gather in person for a selection of live events in Sydney. ScreenFest is an opportunity for established creatives to share their expertise and learnings with a new generation, and we hope the presentations, discussions and deep dives instil passion among up-and-comers looking to pursue a career in screen.”
