Queensland continues to be a sought-after destination for film and series production. Recent releases such as Ron Howard’s THIRTEEN LIVES and TICKET TO PARADISE starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts have showcased the sunshine state’s winning combination of incentives, locations, crews and facilities to audiences around the world.
To find out what really makes Queensland tick, new Screen Queensland CEO Courtney Gibson sat down with Rosemary Blight (BLACK SNOW) and Schuyler Weiss (ELVIS) to discuss their productions with ScreenFest audiences.

SCHUYLER WEISS | Producer Schuyler Weiss has worked with Baz Luhrmann’s production company, Bazmark, since 2005, beginning as assistant to director/producer/writer Luhrmann on all aspects of the feature film Australia, and even co-writing a song with Elton John. Since then, Weiss has gone on to consistently produce content with Luhrmann ranging from branded material to a series of short films that formed the basis of the 2012 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute exhibition “Schiaparelli & Prada: Impossible Conversations.” Outside of his work at Bazmark, Weiss co-founded New York-based Tandem Pictures in 2010, which he built into a successful film and commercial production company and sold in 2016. He has produced numerous independent films, including three features selected for the Sundance Film Festival (THE SLEEPWALKER, 2014; THE EYES OF MY MOTHER, 2016; PIERCING, 2018) and a VR project presented at Tribeca and Cannes Next. In 2018, Weiss executive produced the latest instalment of the genre franchise THE GRUDGE, marking his third collaboration with rising directing talent, Nicolas Pesce. In 2018, Weiss returned to Bazmark full-time as Managing Director, overseeing all production and development activities. In addition to producing Luhrmann’s latest epic feature ELVIS, released worldwide in June, 2022, Weiss is currently executive producing the re-mounting of Luhrmann’s Australia as a limited series for Hulu and Disney+, titled Faraway Downs.

ROSEMARY BLIGHT | Producer Rosemary Blight is a founding partner at Goalpost Pictures and one of Australia’s most experienced producers. Rosemary is currently Producer for BLACK SNOW for Stan, Sundance Now and All3 Media starring Travis Fimmel. She recently produced Benjamin Millepied’s debut feature CARMEN, a drama with music and dance, with original songs by Academy Award nominated composer Nicholas Britell, co-produced with Chapter 2 and starring Melissa Barrera, Paul Mescal and Rossy de Palma. Her screen credits include I AM WOMAN, the story of Australian international singing superstar Helen Reddy, directed by Unjoo Moon; Executive Producer on Universal’s THE INVISIBLE MAN, written and directed by Leigh Whannell and starring Elisabeth Moss, Producer of the critically acclaimed television series CLEVERMAN for ABC TV, SundanceTV, BBC Three & TVNZ, Producer of the box office smash hit THE SAPPHIRES, which premiered at Cannes. Rosemary is a member of the Arts & Culture Advisory Committee and sits on the Board of Screenworks.

COURTNEY GIBSON | Screen Queensland CEO Courtney Gibson is an accomplished CEO and senior executive with over 40 years’ experience in the media and screen industries. Prior to joining Screen Queensland she held leadership roles including:
Gibson delivered record levels of investment into the production sectors in NSW and South Australia as CEO of their respective screen agencies. Along with that she developed and implemented policies and programs that delivered more diverse screen industries in both states. In recognition of this, in 2017 she was awarded the prestigious Cecil Holmes Award by the Australian Directors’ Guild for developing and implementing programs which ensured equal representation for female directors. As Head of Arts, Entertainment and Comedy at ABC TV, Gibson commissioned enduring programs as SPICKS & SPECKS and Q&A, as well as THE CHASER'S WAR ON EVERYTHING, WE CAN BE HEROS, SUMMER HEIGHTS HIGH, THE NEW INVENTORS , STRICTLY DANCING, THE EINSTEIN FACTOR, THE THE MOVIES WITH MARGARET AND DAVID, GOOD GAME and THE BOOK CLUB WITH JENNIFER BYRNE, ultimately performing the role of Executive Head of Content Creation at the national broadcaster. At Nine she was network executive on the first series of MARRIED AT FIRST SIGHT, THE GREAT AUSTRALIAN BAKE OFF and AUSTRALIA'S GOT TALENT. Prior to becoming a content commissioner in Australia, Gibson was a producer for seven years in the UK, including the first four years of the innovative and iconic Channel Four series THE BIG BREAKFAST and the first series of THE GIRLIE SHOW.
